Welcome to my blog about beer, food and other observations from Rochester NY.
Why the Cream Ale Drinker? I thought Cream Ale was a good metaphor for a Rochester blog since a lot of people do think of Rochester when Cream Ale is mentioned and yes I do enjoy a nice cold Cream Ale regularly.
I’d love to hear your memories/stories of your first encounters with Genny etc.
I’m a freelance graphic designer that lives with in the suburbs of Rochester: Greece, NY and manages the graphics department for the Rochester regional office a national magazine publisher for my day job…
Some of my interests are as follows: Beer, Scotch, Music, Rochester History , Breweriana (beer trays, signs and coasters etc.) from NY and PA, Route 66 and the 1940’s-50’s: design , architecture, kitsch/nostalgia, Diners etc.. .
The main thing that fueled me to start this blog is that I have a great appreciation for the beers and products that are produced locally. I grew up in South Central Pennsylvania but now proudly call Rochester home. I inherited my love of beer from my dad; an avid homebrewer who also assists with brewing at a local brew pub back in Pennsylvania.
Thanks for visiting,
Daron

Daron,
I’m your father-in-law Dennis’, cousin. Saw you at the Dennis’ (Jr.) opening at Virtu a couple of nights ago and Dennis Sr. told me about your website and then sent me the link. I love it, great stuff covering 2 of my favorite topics: beer and Rochester!! I do have to say that there is one thing that concerns me and that is that you’re a Cream Ale aficionado!?! – But I won’t hold that against you.
Keep me posted on your upcoming discoveries about Rochester history, architecture and design I’d love to hear about them. I’ll keep checking back on your website too.
I’ll pass the site on to my son-in-law Shawn Bauerschmidt, he lives in Ontario NY but is a history buff and collector, I’m sure he’ll enjoy it too.
Take care, say Hi to Janél and give Estée a big kiss for me.

Hi- -
Just happened on your website and found that we have a couple of things in common. I like Genny Cream Ale and don’t understand why locals mock it.
Second, I actually lived on Route 66 where it passed through Albuquerque, New Mexico as Central Avenue.
And that was in the 50s.
And, even at my ripe (or, perhaps, over-ripe) age I just discovered that there is a world of difference between blended Scotch Whisky (which I don’t much care for) and Single Malt (which I find I do, indeed, care for).
We never stop learning, do we?

Hi, I am looking for some info on Roscoe’s Hop House Craft Beer. I picked some up at my local grocery store and haven’t been able to find any info….says it’s brewed and bottled in Rochester, NY. It first caught my eye because my dog’s name is Roscoe and, yes, I do like beer! Anyway…can’t find any info anywhere on this Brewery! Thought you might have some info. Lynn
Hi Lynn,
If it’s got the brew/bot Rochester NY that leads me to believe it is contract beer that is brewed by the Genesee Brewing Co., so whoever owns the Roscoe brand doesn’t have their own brewery and is having Genesee brew and bottle it for them. This is actually fairly common these days and Genesee does this for many brands..
If it was in fact a local Rochester beer I would be aware of it.
have a great weekend,
Daron
I found the brew today at a meijer’s grocery store in illinois and was surprised when I didn’t find info on it either. Come to find out, it is brewed by High Falls Brewing, according to the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau.
