The first cases of the Genesee Heritage Collection variety pack are delivered to a few select bars in Downtown Rochester NY by Horse and Carriage.
I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard that Genesee was bring back the iconic 12 Horse Ale, not to mention that they marked the occasion by delivering it by horse drawn carriage to a few select bars in downtown Rochester, NY. The beer was originally introduced in 1933 and was last on store shelves in 2003 when it was pulled due to lack of sales. It was delivered to Salinger’s Bar around lunch time today in the new Genesee Heritage Variety Packs. The pack features Genesee Lager, Cream Ale and of course 12 Horse Ale all in vintage style stubby glass bottles. As a collector of NY breweriana 12 Horse has always been one my favorite brands so I was thrilled to get to try it and see it being produced once again. Here’s to hoping it catches on and sticks around for while. The Heritage Variety Pack are a limited release and should be hitting store sometime very soon. Try some while you can or better yet share some with your friends and family and see what stories or memories they have of this iconic brand. Cheers!

Love the stubbies … would be nice to buy any of those brands in the stubby in a six pack if they will sell it like that.
Bob
I also like the stubbies. Looking forward to 12 horse in the “no necks”.
My husband loves the 12 Horse Ale and I haven been looking for a pub glass or mug with the 12 Horse Ale logo for a present. Where can I find one to buy?
That is slick, didn’t know they were delivering it like that. Would have been even cooler if they had the other 10 horses with them.
As far as heritage goes, I’d love to see them bring back stuff that I would have never been able to try in my lifetime, such as Genesee’s Liebotschaner Beer.
I’m with you one that one I’d love them to bring back Liebotschaner, I have a beautiful Liebotschaner bottle, that was the first beer they brewed after prohibition. I’d also love to see old Tam O’shanter beers (my favorite ROC brewery/beer brand that’s not around anymore) I was told they have all the old recipes from those old brands and breweries they acquired.
Very cool, can you post a photo of the Liebotschaner bottle? I’d love to see it. I agree, I would love to have a taste tour of the history of Rochester breweries. I wonder if they’d get more support for knocking down the old Standard building if they were going to serve stuff like this in their visitor’s center.
What sort of ROC beer stuff do you collect? One of my friends/neighbors has an awesome collection of trays and bottles. He has a ton of Ol’ Topper trays. He also has a full bottle of Cream Ale Lite that I never knew existed.
Been looking for 12 Horse Cream Ale and hope I can get it near OC,Md or lower Delaware. Used to buy 1 case a week in the 80′s in Baltimore. Miss the taste. Can you locate where I can order a couple of cases.
Just bought the 12horse at cheers in berlin ,md
my great uncle John “Jack” Doyle drove the 12 horse team back in the day…
That’s a great piece of history/ I only wish that I could get a few cases here near Ocean City, Md.
Growing up in Rochester NY I sure can remember some old time brews: Genesee beer; Cream ale, 12 horse ale, Tam-o-Shanter, Topper, Standard dry. Does anyone know where I can acquire these old beer trays, or still buy
these products?
Hi Ken,
I’m not sure where you’re located but Genesee is pretty widely available and they have relaunched many of the old time Genny brews such as 12 horse and Fyfe and Drum. The beer trays can easily be acquired on ebay but if your really interested in collecting them I’d suggest joining a Breweriana collecting club. Many of the clubs have annual shows where dealers sell and trade there collectibles. Here a couple http://www.bcca.com/ http://www.americanbreweriana.org/ You can also just do a internet search for breweriana, beer trays, beer collectibles, there’s several dealers online and you can also usually find a few trays at your local antique mall/store or flea market. Good luck!
